Strathnairn Music Initiative
The Strathnairn Music Initiative has a vision to create and embed a local music hub for residents of Strathnairn.
This charity run initiative provides the community with musical opportunities where people from across ALL generations, social classes and income brackets are able to meet and play, sing, learn and enjoy music together throughout the year. Fees are greatly subsidised by the funding we have received from the Strathnairn Community Benefit Fund as well as Highlife Highland and the William Syson Foundation.

Jamie Mackenzie

Jamie graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA (Hons) in Music in 2016. He has been a music tutor for almost 10 years. He is primarily a guitarist and is much in demand locally as a performer, in a variety of styles. The piano was his first instrument, but for many years he shamefully neglected it in favour of the guitar, until at the age of 21 he saw the error of his ways, and started trying to play the piano again. He now tries to encourage his students not to make that same terrible mistake!
Julie Harvey
Keyboard, Singing
Julie moved to the Highlands in 2020. Born a Lancashire Lass, Julie’s musical training began at 9 with piano and flute. She loved to sing in school and having an ear for harmony, enjoyed singing alto, discovering her inner soprano later in life! Julie qualified and worked as a speech and language therapist, specialising in working with children also enjoying working in vocal health and incorporating music into her work where possible. After post-graduate training in primary teaching, Julie worked in early years and enjoyed school musical life. Becoming a freelance music teacher in 2009, in Cumbria and the Scottish Borders, Julie now has a busy teaching practice in piano and singing. She also leads community choirs, singing for health and well-being sessions (with a particular interest in singing for lung health) and children’s choirs. Julie loves living in the Highlands and when not singing or encouraging other people to sing, she loves being outdoors and spending time with her beloved rescue donkeys ( who are now also confident singers!)
