Celebrating the Arthur Bennet Link

We are proud to mark a special moment in the history of Farr Community Hall with the dedication of the Arthur Bennet Link—a lasting tribute to a man whose vision, determination, and community spirit helped turn a dream into reality.

The idea for the hall was born in 1993, when a group of local residents came together with a shared hope of creating a space for the whole community to gather, connect, and grow. With no public funding available, they faced the enormous challenge of raising every penny themselves. Through countless meetings, sponsored walks, litter collections, car boot sales, the creation of a 100 Club, and the launch of the first Farr Gala in 1997, the community rallied together to make it happen. The land for the hall was generously donated by Max Smith, a gesture that made the project possible.

At the heart of it all was Arthur Bennet, who chaired the committee when the project had no funds—only hope. Through his leadership, passion, and unshakable belief in what could be achieved, Arthur inspired those around him to persevere, overcome challenges, and never lose sight of the goal. His dedication helped steer the project through to its triumphant opening in the year 2000.

We are especially delighted that Ishbel Bennet was able to unveil the commemorative plaque, honouring Arthur’s incredible contribution and the hard work of the entire team who helped bring Farr Community Hall to life.

The Arthur Bennet Link is more than a passageway—it’s a symbol of community, commitment, and the power of working together to build something lasting.
