Wester Lairgs Quarry Planning Application (25/03869/FUL)

Planning Application for Extraction and processing of sand and gravel  550m East Of Farr Community Hall. Planning Application Number: 25/03869/FUL. This is classed as a Major Development by Pat Munro

The overall development would release approximately 750,000 tonnes of sand and gravel at an anticipated output of 50,000 tonnes per annum, with an operational lifetime of 15 years.

The main elements of the proposal include:

• Road improvement works to the B851

• Infill planting along the access track which connects the site, Wester Lairgs Farm and the forestry plantation to the east with the B851.

• The extraction of sands and gravels from the site using a wheeled loading shovel/excavator

• The processing (screening, washing and occasional crushing) of sand and gravel onsite into

• Landscaping and progressive restoration of the site to a final restoration incorporating species

• Improvement of grassland off site to achieve Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) targets

Processing would take place whereby a loading shovel would place excavated sand and gravel into the processing plant, which comprises a series of screens. This segregates the feedstock into various grades of sand and gravel. The sand and gravel within the site is of a very high quality with a low silt content, however, if necessary, a limited proportion of the sand and gravel would be washed to remove all fines. A proportion of the excavated feedstock would comprise of oversized material that is too big to feed into the plant without further processing or too large for use as a commercial saleable product. This oversized material would be crushed, as required, into smaller sizes to allow it to be fed into the screening plant. It is anticipated that any crushing carried out on site would be short term.
